DESCRIPTION:DEN DER HALE:Enigmatic Swedish post-psych band Den Der Hale are
known for their\nboundary-pushing soundscapes. The group are currently ge
aring up to release\ntheir highly anticipated second album\, Pastoral Ligh
t\, on February 2nd 2024 via\nFatCat Records. This album showcases the ban
d's ability to meld diverse creative\ninspirations into a seamless and exp
	erimental sonic journey\, transcending genres\nand defying conventions.Den
Der Hale was formed in 2019 by Pontus Lindskogen\n(guitar\, vocals)\, Max
	 Bredberg (guitar)\, Axel Nelson (drums)\, Mimosa Baker\n(synth\, vocals)\
, and Ejner Trenter (bass). Operating from various rehearsal\nspaces in Ma
lmö\, the band quickly gained recognition in Scandinavia with a\nseries of
	 singles\, followed by their debut album\, Harsyra\, in 2021.Their unique\
	nfusion of folk-inspired kraut\, gritty psych\, and post-rock led to the b
and’s\ncreation of the term "post-psych" which perfectly encapsulates thei
r distinctive\nsound. Itinerant rhythms and atonal melodies are filtered t
hrough heavy effects\,\nharsh layers of noise are contrasted by animate ba
ss lines and propulsive\npercussions. In this seemingly chaotic amalgam\,
there is always a red line\, and\noften each musical output becomes a synt
	hesis\, a whole.Overall\, Pastoral Light\nwas inspired by the proliferatio
n of mankind and the human impact on the\nenvironment. Serving as a plea t
o natural forces for redemption\, Pastoral Light\nis a profound musical jo
urney that will leave listeners both spellbound and\nreflective.The album
opens with ‘A Part of Wrath and Stone’\, one of the band's\nearliest compo
sitions. “This is the track Pontus used to lure Ejner into the\nband. In m
any ways it is a showcase of our different musical backgrounds\, with\nits
blend of aggressive kraut\, atmospheric vocals and atonal riffs\,” explai
ns\nthe band.Lead single ‘The Horse From Turin’ was originally inspired by
Bela\nTarr’s film ‘The Turin Horse’. The film’s title refers to the whipp
ing of a\nhorse that is rumoured to have caused the mental breakdown of ph
ilosopher\nFriedrich Nietzsche. “Originally based on an acoustic bass line
\, ‘The Horse from\nTurin’ soon grew into a beast of its own through copio
us jam sessions”\, they\nsay. “Thematically it began as a vague idea based
on Bela Tarr’s film’\, but just\nas the original bass line\, the lyrics s
oon took new directions.”Atmospheric\ntrack ‘The Frail’ was written during
the band's recording process\, featuring\ncustom-made instruments and exp
erimental soundscapes. "To achieve the eerie\natmospheric drone that under
pins the entire song\, we wanted to create a very\nlong bass string which
could be used both percussively with a contact\nmicrophone\, as well as a
bow. We experimented with a steel wire which was\nattached to different po
ints in a room\, until we found the proper length and\ntension to get the
correct pitch\," explains the band.‘Donkey Skin’ is another of\nthe band's
early compositions\, which also takes inspiration from cinema. “The\nsong
takes its name and lyrical theme from the eponymous French film from 1970
\,\nand although it was considered to have it be a fully acoustic track\,
the dreamy\natmosphere of the film soon bled into the songwriting\, and a
more effect-driven\nand ethereal sound was decided on\,” explains Den Der
	Hale.With 'Pastoral Light'\,\nthe Swedish post-psych quintet has crafted a
n album that transcends the\nordinary\, inviting listeners to embark on a
journey that delves into the\nintricacies of human existence and our relat
	ionship with the natural\nworld. https://denderhale.bandcamp.com/\\n\\nBla
