Der öffentliche Raum in Linz wird zunehmend reguliert. Eine neue Stadtverordnung hat mit dem lange praktizierten und tolerierten Wildplakatieren Schluss gemacht – eine Veränderung, die vor allem kulturelle und künstlerische Akteur*innen trifft. Plakate von unabhängigen Kunst- und Kultureinrichtungen, einst ein fester Bestandteil des Stadtbilds und Gradmesser für die kulturellen Aktivitäten, sind heute nur noch an wenigen ausgewählten legalen Orten am Rand der Stadt sichtbar. Was bleibt, sind kommerzielle und politische Werbeflächen – jene, die es sich leisten können, gesehen zu werden. Unsere Antwort auf die wachsenden Einschränkungen informeller, kultureller Ausdrucksformen im öffentlichen Raum ist ein Open Call: Gemeinsam wollen wir die Kunst auf die Straße zurückbringen.
PLAKATropolis ist ein stadtweites Plakatfestival, das den öffentlichen Raum für künstlerische Ausdrucksformen und kulturelle Initiativen zurückerobert. Zehn Tage lang bespielen wir übersehene, vergessene oder streng regulierte Ecken von Linz und verwandeln sie in temporäre Zonen für Sichtbarkeit, Kritik und kollektive Imagination.
Die Eröffnung findet am Samstag, den 1. November, um 16:00 im LENTOS Freiraum statt und geht ab 19:00 im SIRUP mit Plakaten, Drinks und Musik weiter.

Public space in Linz is becoming increasingly regulated. A new city ordinance has put an end to the long-practised and tolerated practice of wild postering, a shift that especially affects cultural, and artistic actors. Posters from independent art and cultural institutions, once an integral part of the cityscape and an indicator of cultural activities, are now restricted to a few selected legal spots on the sidelines. What remains visible are commercial and political ads — those that can afford to be seen. Our response to the growing restrictions on accessible, informal cultural expression in public space is an open call: together, we want to bring art back to the streets.
PLAKATropolis is a city-wide poster festival reclaiming public space for artistic expression and cultural initiatives. For ten days, we will occupy overlooked, forgotten, or tightly regulated corners of Linz and transform them into temporary zones for visibility, critique, and collective imagination.
The opening will take place on Saturday, 1 November at 16:00 at LENTOS Freiraum and continuing at 19:00 at SIRUP with posters, drinks and music.
